Marta Attends Linde Ivimey Exhibition

Sydney artist Linde Ivimey – famous for her intricate and macabre sculptures that are made of bones and favoured by collectors around the world – is gearing up for her first major exhibition next week following a gruelling year in which she was diagnosed and underwent treatment for breast cancer. Indeed some of the pieces in the show, which opens at Martin Browne in Paddington on Thursday, are marked “BC” and “AD”, which the artist explained was “before cancer and after cancer”. Last Thursday night she hosted an intimate preview of the exhibition in her Erskineville studio, where Penelope Seidler, actor Marta Dusseldorp, philanthropist Catriona Mordant and renowned New Zealand collector Milly Paris were among the first to see the new works featuring Ivimey’s “black dog”, which combine a mix of dark humour and irreverence – character traits which no doubt helped get her through a most challenging year.
